In a joint operation between the CTI of the Prosecutor’s Office and the National Police, it was captured this Saturday, June 14 at Medellín Arlenson González Vanegas, alias ‘Máximo’, Identified as leader of the Substructure ‘Jorge Iván Arboleda Garcés’ of the Gulf Clan. The capture was confirmed by the Minister of Defense, Pedro Sánchez, and by President Gustavo Petro, who delivered more details of the detainee’s criminal record.

President Petro reported that the captured had a criminal trajectory for more than ten years and was required for multiple crimes, including kidnapping, homicide, qualified and aggravated theft. Since 2015, it would have advanced violent actions against ex -combatants from the peace agreement, as well as against human rights defenders in the Northeast Antioquia. Responsibility is also attributed to activities such as drug trafficking, extortion and illegal mining.
Alias ’maximum’ arrest is an important blow to the structures of the Gulf clan, One of the most dangerous illegal armed organizations in the country. The Minister of Defense highlighted the work articulated among the institutions.

In a shared statement in his X (formerly Twitter) account, President Petro also referred to the criminal structure known as «the Board», an organization that, according to him, Control drug trafficking routes in various regions of the country and that would have links with the Gulf and EMC clan (Central General Staff). Petro asked the Foreign Ministry to be declared terrorist organization by governments such as the United States, the European Union and United Arab Emirates.
The president also asked the Attorney General of the Nation to investigate Por what was raised the arrest warrant against Diego Marín, aka ‘dad pitufo’, Alleged member of this network, which allowed its release in Portugal. He insisted that the international capture order against him and that both Marín and the other members of the Board be submitted to Colombian justice.
