Sebastián Macías Correa, former player of Independiente Medellín and Cúcuta Deportivo, ended up detained in Nashville, Tennessee, on May 10. The authorities arrested him for assaulting a lifeguard, committing acts of vandalism and altering public order. For several days he remained held without the right to bail. Accusations of sexual abuse chase him since 2022

In Medellín, Macías faced a serious complaint in 2022 for alleged sexual aggression. Paulina Vivares, a 18 -year -old girl, accused him of rape after a night out. Both met on Instagram and shared a party before going to the player’s house. According to the victim’s story, he physically and sexually assaulted her when she refused to have intimate relationships.

The former player’s family, according to defender Diana Correa, would have tried to buy her silence. «They told him to put the figure,» Correa said at the time. Despite the media impact, the case did not prosper judicially. Shortly after, Macías disappeared from the radar of professional football and traveled to the United States.

Macías debuted in 2016 with Deportivo Independiente Medellín, where he was crowned champion and played 79 games. He also wore the T -shirts of Deportivo Pasto, Cúcuta Deportivo and River Plate of Uruguay. At 29, his career ended up marked by scandals more than sports achievements.

His case recalls that of other Colombian soccer players who crossed the line between fame and crime. Names such as Jhon Viáfara, Diego León Osorio and Anthony de Ávila also faced processes for drug trafficking, arms trafficking or aggressions. Macías, however, is among the few indicated by sexual crimes and physical aggressions, both in Colombia and abroad.

The case of Sebastián Macías Correa once again exposes the thin line between sports success and personal fall. Its history, which began on the courts with glory, is written today in court. American justice has already closed its last process, but the shadow of its past acts continues to project, while football observes it from afar.
