The Colombian exciclist Luis «Lucho» Herrera confessed to having paid 10 million pesos to an intermediary of the paramilitaries. He did it in 2016, in Fusagasugá, with the aim of being outside an investigation for the disappearance of four peasants in 2002. This was revealed during a judicial hearing within the framework of the process he currently faces.

Herrera said she handed over the money to a young man who arrived on a motorcycle, but then did not know the case again. The formerclist assured that this payment was due to a «pressure», not to his order to commit a crime. However, he acknowledged that his name appeared in the documents of a paramilitary structure, which is why he felt fear and sought to get out of the problem.

Although he denies any responsibility in the disappearances, his testimony showed that he did intervene to avoid investigation. The Prosecutor’s Office now evaluates the scope of its confession and its relationship with crimes.

Justice will continue the process in the coming months.
